Coastal Hire has been proud this week to assist a local initiative to transport a shipping container load of donations from Port Macquarie to Tamworth.
The donations were made by community members from the Mid North Coast as well as other regions of NSW such as the Central Coast.
The donations were managed by Sunset Framing & Art Gallery in Port Macquarie who offered up a spare warehouse when the town of Port Macquarie was overwhelmed with donations during the bushfire crisis late last year.
Due to the sheer bulk of donations made in Port Macquarie during the bushfire crisis, local op shops did not need any more donations, therefore it was decided to look further afield. It was discovered that the Salvation Army Store in Tamworth was in desperate need of donations, and so began the challenge of getting the goods packed up and moved over the mountain!
It has taken Scott and Cherie from Sunset Gallery months to sort through all of the donations and pack them up into boxes and bags ready to be distributed. Luckily, they have had a lot of help from local community groups, businesses and charities including Webstudio, Hastings Men’s Shed and Red Cross.
Having branches in both Port Macquarie and Tamworth, Coastal Hire was able to assist with supplying a truck and transporting the goods. General Manager Chris Hoolahan said it was a great opportunity for local businesses and charities to collaborate for the greater good.
‘Now more than ever is the time for our community to come together and help each out wherever we can, no matter how small our part is – it all makes a difference’, Mr Hoolahan said.
